Reflections

Reflect on your writing about blessings. What do you notice as you read through your writing for this chapter?

✍ from a teacher’s journal

I teach what I learn. I can’t teach what I haven’t learned. I learn from my own experience, my own emotions, like a child does: I learn the scent of mint by smelling it, the softness of the puppy by touching it. I learn to be by asking myself questions, my own questions. In my blessings poem I create a metaphor of what I’ve learned that is valuable. Daily routine becomes mythic. This is the core issue: I teach what I learn.—Xoán

I’ve just discovered that my classes provide me with oxygen to breathe. Sometimes the relationship with my students is short-lived. Sometimes they will remember me and I’ll remember them. Relationships with students are painful sometimes, but when we work together, we get through it. We exist. We feel. We grow.—Sabela
